DESCRIPTION: The same observation as Rosemary's other painting applies here. It is probably better to have no background (like this) than one that stops short of the positive form. This "vignette" approach often looks good in decorative frames with oval mats or other ornamentation. This approach is not admired by our institutes of higher learning who try to separate art and craft. I personally feel there is a great deal of art in crafts. This painting shows enough talent and skill to merit trying to take it to the next level by learning to handle backgrounds.
