Jean's painting was done using the two pigment method with Ultramarine Blue and Burnt Sienna. This proves that you can still get a striking image with the most minimal pallet. Dark blue tends to make whites look even whiter and it results in this strong visual impact. A bit more variation in the background could be achieved with more Burnt Sienna in places. A few soft edges on the petals would suggest motion and reduce the cut out effect. Very powerful.
